Does the FL2i social network compete directly against other popular social networks?
No, the scope of the FL2i social network is to create uniqueness by aggregating the best content available about Florida, compiling content not available anywhere else, creating innovation, and enabling a direct Florida voice on the Internet for those who live in Florida and those who live elsewhere but are linked to Florida in some way. Other social networks like Facebook and MySpace as well as web sites like Wikipedia have huge communities of members and contain very diversified and valuable content about Florida that could be aggregated on the FL2i social network through the APIs and menchanisms approved by those sites.
How will the FL2i social network be different from other social networks?
1. The first State 2.0 site where the target social community is the entire state and there can be relationships established across individual communities of practice and people interested in Florida.
2. Not only it will aggregate free content about Florida available on other web sites and social networks (mashups), but it will also publish unique content contributed by individuals and organizations in Florida.
3. Innovation is based on the next generation of the web (web 3.0), creating knowledge models that will facilitate navigation, finding things, peering with compatible people, developing smarter applications, pushing content by profile and context, etc..
Is this the final look & feel for the FL2i social network site?
No, the FL2i advisory groups suggested to use a common FL2i image and asked the FL2i Marketing Advisory Group for their feedback. It was decided to get started with a basic preliminary graphic design for the FL2i beta based on a standard template. The image, logos and probably even the branding will change as the beta test advances, we get feedback from beta participants and we promote the FL2i social network to attract more members.
Will FL2i member's profile information be restricted to name, gender, birthday and e-mail?
No, we are only starting the beta test with basic information. Beta participants, under the FL2i advisory groups' lead, should guide us to define what information would be valuable and acceptable to the community in order to include it on the join-in process. This information will be crucial in the future for the FL2i knowledge management model to personalize things, recommend things, push information, drive navigation, do more intelligent searches, etc.
Why can't I find where to respond to a message thread or create a new blog post?
If you are a member, you need to sign in. If you are not a member, you need to join the social network first by registering and then you must sign in. If you are not signed in, you can see the content but you cannot participate.
Why can't I complete my join-in process or why do I see unproportioned text and images?
You are probably using Internet Explorer version 6 or an uncompatible browser. We recommend to upgrade to IE v7 or to use FireFox, Safari or Google Chrome (if you already have it or you can download the latest release here for free). IE v6 was released in August, 2001 and many new things have changed since then, specially on the web 2.0 space, creating problems for this browser in many social networking sites. Anyway, FL2i is receiving error reports through the support form and is constantly updating the software platform to solve this kind of user interface problems as much as possible.
